Overview
The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Merseyside is an elected individual whose job it is to make sure Merseyside Police is run effectively and act as your voice on policing issues in the region.
As the Liaison Officer for the OPCC you will act as the Commissioner’s ambassador within the Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) and support its mission statement of enabling all communities across Merseyside to have the right to be free from violence in order to provide the best life chances for all.
You will ensure joint working and consistent communication with the OPCC and develop relationships with internal and external partners, sharing information and best practice, adding value to the products produced within the MVRP in accordance with the Public Health approach to tackling serious violence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective communication between the OPCC and MVRP to ensure that the MVRP are aware of the PCCs views thus supporting the delivery of the Commissioner’s priorities.
- Undertake core research and horizon scanning to provide advice to the PCC on key emerging strategic issues, threats and risks that impact on the delivery of an effective service.
- Identify, develop and manage relations / links with a wide range of key external stakeholders, agencies and organisations on behalf of the PCC & DPCC, building effective working relationships with these contacts ensuring that the PCC & DPCC’s views are effectively represented. Attend relevant meetings, workshops and conferences both locally and nationally to develop and maintain these links, Identify best practice.
- Identify information gaps and increase data collation and understanding by identifying new partners and data sources through engagement with OPCC and external partners
- Develop new data collection strategies, and extract and understand the value of partner data and how it can add value to MVRP ’understanding of serious violence
Knowledge & Experience
- You must have comprehensive knowledge of issues relating to VRP including existing and emerging national, regional and local strategy and policy to ensure the PCC and DPCC are fully updated and their views are represented.
- An understanding of local government, central government and its partners,
- their roles structures and relationships and their relationship in relation to education.
- High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with people at all levels in the partnership organisations and with outside agencies in order to develop a two-way exchange of information / intelligence.
- Must have knowledge of data sources and adhere to data sharing protocols and

- Proven ability in communication, both verbal and written, with the ability to present / prepare reports.
- Be highly self-motivated and confident with a flexible approach in order to respond to the process of change. The post holder must also at times be able to work unsupervised
