Merseyside Commissioner welcomes sentencing of three men linked to violent disorder across Merseyside

-

Merseyside's Police Commissioner has welcomed the sentences passed down to the first three men convicted in relation to violent disturbances in Southport and Liverpool over the past week.

In a statement Emily Spurrell said: "I welcome the sentencing of these three individuals for their appalling behaviour and disturbing involvement in the disorder we’ve seen play out on our streets.

"Through their involvement in those violent scenes, Drummond, Geiran and Riley were complicit in the spread of fear, hatred and vandalism across communities mired in grief, already suffering an unbearable loss in the wake of last Monday’s horrific knife attack.

"This was not protest. It was crime and disorder, and it will not be tolerated. The swift justice and the length of the sentences handed down to these individuals should act as a stark warning to anyone considering getting involved in violent disorder. Those who do so, should expect to face prison and the misery that brings, for you and your family.

"Merseyside Police will be relentless in ensuring all those who took part in violence and disorder also face the courts. Detectives are working around the clock to identify and locate those who took part in these disturbances and over the coming days, we will see more sentences being handed down to those responsible."
